Come to Church!

And let us consider how to provoke one another to love and good deeds, not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day approaching.

Hebrews 10:24-25 (NRSV)

There has been a movement, a very strong movement, towards church attendance online and the pandemic has heightened this movement. Granted, there was some need at the beginning of the pandemic because we didn’t know what we were dealing with, but now, as things seem to be loosening up, there is still a propensity towards not assembling with other believers. This is a practice that needs to end now.

Paul put it as plainly as it could be put here in the book of Hebrews. He started by talking about how important it is to come together as Christians in order to “provoke one another to love and good deeds” (v. 24). It is the encouragement of our fellow believers that keeps us going and prevents our slipping. The best way to do that is in person. They didn’t have the option of online services or meetings in Paul’s day, but those virtual meetings are not as powerful as meeting in person, getting to see each other without the distortion of the screen or the frustrations of virtual communication.

In order to have peace in our current times it is best if we can encourage each other, in person is best but online is secondary only when in person is not possible. So, if you don’t have a church, find one that will help you in your walk with the Lord, it is almost impossible to continue without the support of others.

Jesus told us to love God, love others, and make disciples. All of this cannot be done to its full potential unless we “meet together.” Finding a church needs to be a matter of prayer and once one is found it is for us to be faithful in our attendance and tithe as we work hand in hand with other believers to win this world for Christ.
